Of Course We Need a Plumber

Up until yesterday morning I was under the impression that we the homeowners would be able to rough in the plumbing under the concrete slab.  As the foundation pour became imminent we did the research to understand what this would entail and quickly realized that it is more complicated than a couple simple pipes.  Further, a homeowner is not allowed to pull a permit to do this work unless it is the primary residence.  The plumbing inspector for our county cleared this up for me right away and now begins the plumber search.

And we had hoped to pour the floor next week.  Hopefully this is a minor setback and I’ll be able find a plumber to perform this work.  I think I made a hundred phone calls yesterday.  I have a couple leads and am waiting for bid via email from one and another to make contact so he can go visit Josh out at the property today to take a look at the plans and get us a bid.  In either case we will probably be delayed by several weeks due to my oversight.  I should’ve been calling these guys months ago!

And so it goes when building without a general contractor!

Foundation walls are being poured today, I’ll post photos as soon as I get them from Josh.

  1. Hang in there Jenny. There are ALWAYS unexpected issues with a new place. We are still fighting issues at our house after 8 months of living here. I’m not surprised you had to make so many phone calls,.
Getting a good, responsive contractor takes a lot of legwork and time.
    We’re pulling for you!

  2. Hi Jenny…I second what your Dad said. And, by the time you’re done you’re going to be an expert on being your own contractor. Set backs are frustrating but I know you’ll push through! Love, Diane
