Getting Ready For a Roof

This week I came back home while Josh stayed down south to keep progress moving on the house.  It’s really hard being apart and the time when our family can be back together again will be so sweet.

Here’s a video from the end of week four:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_g4_K1qRhs.

Saturday afternoon my mom Carol came down to help get some ceiling electrical boxes wired in.  They also managed to wrangle a huge tarp over the top of the house.  This will protect the place while we work from below.  Within hours the wind had ripped a few holes, but for the most part it is holding.

By Wednesday we had passed the electrical rough-in and framing inspections and the rains had rolled in.

We decided that we would get the roof on as quickly as possible, spray foam insulation from below, then finish the ceiling after the building was protected.  This will eliminate the vent space at the top of the house, but it’s not really necessary anyway with the closed cell insulation.

Here’s how the ceiling is progressing.  It’s absolutely beautiful.  Bob the Insulation Guy can spray between the roof and rafters for a few feet down to give us a nice snug cap on the place.  Bob the Builder from La Veta and Josh worked for several days while it rained on the tarp to progress 11 rows down.  It’s painstaking work, mainly because the space between each rafter is not exactly the same.  Moving forward, I think we’ll have to try and get an average size piece for each row so that we don’t have to individually fit each and every one.

I headed down on Friday for a visit and to resupply Josh.  Damn I miss him and it was terribly difficult to leave the next day.  We got the window installed in the addition then I headed back to my girlies.

We are targeting Thursday to get the roof on.  Fingers crossed that the weather will hold and the crew will all be available.

  1. Hang in there! I’m sure the separation has been super hard for both of you needing to put your heads down and keep up with your individual roles in order to keep everything on track. Just keep thinking of all of the years you will spend TOGETHER in this beautiful place. It will all be worth it. Big hugs to you!
