Putting a Lid On It

This week we accomplished our bottom line goal for the summer:  get a roof on this house.  The relief is physical, I feel so much calmer.  Josh is home after three weeks at the build site camping.  He eats only PBJ, hot dogs and Larabars when he’s out there by himself.  I’m so glad to have him back.  Enough about our sanity and diet already, here’s a few photos of the progress on the house this week.

The first few days Josh worked on the siding over the addition area amid frequent intense thunderstorms.  Watch this video of a crazy rainstorm under the tarp.

On Thursday the crew of Barry, Tim and Ron freed up and they put all 36 roofing panels and the skylight up before the end of the day.  Almost.  There were some technical difficulties.

The dome window itself was a bit deformed.  Apparently the pressure of 7000 feet above sea level was too much for the acrylic to hold its shape.  We got a quick fix from the window people and after drilling a couple small holes into the inner layer of “glass” it is going back into the proper shape.

The plan now is to have a normal week at home, then head back down for one final week of the summer to weatherproof the exterior, hang and finish some doors and hopefully get out for a hike.  Now we can slow down a bit!

Thanks for reading.

  1. WOW…the roof really completes the structure…I love the siding and the entry way…incredible job. Josh sure has been a trouper through all that rain too. Hope you all get to enjoy a bit of relaxation time…what a process this has been!
